Convex Finance

Convex Finance is a yield optimization protocol built on top of Curve Finance that enhances returns for liquidity providers and CRV token stakers. By aggregating user deposits, Convex secures boosted rewards from Curve's gauge system and passes the majority of these enhanced yields back to users. The platform manages Curve LP tokens and CRV stakes, allowing users to earn additional CVX tokens on top of their Curve rewards without directly participating in Curve governance or maintaining custody of their assets. This creates a more capital-efficient way to generate yield in the Curve ecosystem. Example: A user deposits USDC/USDT Curve LP tokens into Convex's cvxUSDC/USDT pool, earning not only the base Curve trading fees and CRV emissions but also additional CVX rewards generated by Convex's large stake in Curve's governance system. Why it matters for DeFi: Convex solved the yield aggregation problem by democratizing access to boosted Curve rewards previously available only to large holders, making it a critical liquidity hub that attracts billions in TVL across DeFi.
