Decryption

Decryption is the computational process of converting encrypted ciphertext back into plaintext using the correct cryptographic key or password. When data is encrypted, it becomes unreadable without the decryption key; only authorized parties possessing that key can restore the original information. The decryption process reverses the mathematical transformations applied during encryption, restoring data to its original, comprehensible form while leaving encrypted copies unaffected if the key remains secure. Example: When a user imports their encrypted wallet backup using a seed phrase, decryption algorithms convert the encrypted private keys back into usable form. Only someone with the correct seed phrase can successfully decrypt and access the wallet's funds. Why it matters for privacy technology: Decryption determines who can access sensitive data; secure encryption with proper key management ensures that only authorized parties can decrypt confidential information. In crypto, the ability to decrypt your own wallet while preventing others from doing so is fundamental to asset security and privacy protection.
