The period during 2017 and early 2018 characterized by a massive speculative bubble in Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs). Thousands of projects raised billions of dollars by issuing new tokens, often with little more than a whitepaper. The boom was marked by extreme hype, widespread scams, and ultimately led to a market crash and increased regulatory scrutiny.
