Manus

Web3 / ai data

Manus is a general-purpose autonomous AI agent developed by Chinese startup Butterfly Effect (manus.im), differentiating from chat-style assistants by executing multi-step tasks end-to-end inside a sandboxed virtual machine with real browser, terminal, and file-system access. Rather than returning answers, Manus produces deliverables — websites, applications, financial models, research reports, populated spreadsheets — by autonomously planning, browsing, coding, and operating tools across long task horizons. The 2026 platform includes Wide Research (every sub-agent in a Wide Research run is a fully capable Manus instance, enabling parallel multi-agent execution), the Web App Builder (creates full applications with built-in database, Stripe, and SEO), a Chrome extension, and a desktop app with local file access. Manus remains invite-only as of April 2026 with a waitlist exceeding 500,000 users; Meta announced an acquisition in December 2025 that was blocked by Chinese regulators in April 2026, leaving the company independent. Example: A token-launch team gives Manus a one-paragraph brief — "Build a tokenomics page for Project X with vesting schedule chart, KYC waitlist form, and Stripe-powered allowlist payment" — and Manus autonomously builds, deploys, and tests the complete site without further input. Why it matters for AI and data in Web3: Manus' sandbox architecture and end-to-end task execution model are the closest production-grade implementation of the autonomous Web3 agent vision. For DAOs, token issuers, and DeFi protocols it materially reduces the cost of standing up product surfaces, research output, and operational tooling.
