Marinade Finance
Web3 / defi
Marinade Finance is the original liquid staking protocol on Solana that solved the problem of illiquid staking by allowing SOL holders to deposit their tokens and receive mSOL, a liquid staking derivative that represents their staked position while remaining freely tradeable and composable across DeFi. Rather than locking SOL in a validator for months, Marinade users can immediately use mSOL in lending protocols, AMMs, or other DeFi applications while still earning staking rewards. The protocol manages a diversified set of validators to ensure network security and decentralization while providing a seamless, non-custodial staking experience that dramatically increased Solana's staking participation. Example: A trader deposits 100 SOL into Marinade Finance, receives 99 mSOL (slightly less due to protocol fees), and immediately deposits that mSOL into Lido or another DeFi lending protocol to earn additional yields on top of the 5-8% annual staking rewards. Why it matters for DeFi: Marinade transformed illiquid staking into a productive DeFi asset, unlocking billions in previously dormant capital and establishing the liquid staking token model that became foundational to Solana's economic security.
