Rare Sats

Web3 / nfts collectibles

Rare Sats are individual satoshis (the smallest unit of Bitcoin, equal to one hundred-millionth of a BTC) that possess special significance based on their position, origin, or characteristics within Bitcoin's mining history. These include categories such as "Genesis Sats" from the very first Bitcoin block, "Halving Sats" from the first transaction of each halving epoch, "Block 9 Sats," and satoshis from blocks mined by specific notable entities. Collectors value Rare Sats similarly to how numismatists collect rare coins, trading them for premiums over their nominal Bitcoin value. The Ordinals protocol enabled easier identification and trading of Rare Sats by assigning permanent sequential numbers to each satoshi. Example: The first satoshi ever created, known as the Genesis Sat, has become one of the most sought-after Rare Sats and has been inscribed and traded as an NFT collectible worth millions of dollars. Why it matters for NFTs and digital collectibles: Rare Sats demonstrate how Bitcoin's transparent history and immutable record create genuine scarcity and collectibility, establishing a new category of blockchain-native digital collectibles with historical and cultural significance.
