sUSDe

Web3 / defi

sUSDe is the yield-bearing variant of Ethena's USDe stablecoin, functioning as a liquidity staking token that automatically accrues yield from the protocol's earnings. When users deposit USDe into the sUSDe contract, they begin earning a portion of Ethena's protocol revenues generated through staking rewards and cryptocurrency derivatives positions. The sUSDe token's exchange rate with USDe increases over time as yield accrues, allowing holders to accumulate additional value without active management or compounding transactions. Example: After Ethena's launch, sUSDe emerged as the primary yield-bearing vehicle for USDe holders who wished to capture protocol earnings, with the token's value increasing relative to USDe as protocol revenues accumulated from ETH staking and perpetual futures funding. Why it matters for DeFi: sUSDe enables passive yield farming for stablecoin holders, combining the stability of USDe with productive returns typically unavailable in traditional finance. This creates new opportunities for capital efficiency in yield-generating strategies across DeFi applications.
