User Experience

Web3 / infrastructure applications

The overall quality of interaction a person has with a crypto application, protocol, or wallet—a critical adoption factor that the industry broadly recognizes as a major barrier to mainstream use. Poor UX in Web3 manifests as: seed phrase management complexity, confusing wallet addresses, gas fee unpredictability, error messages opaque to non-technical users, multi-step approval flows for basic DeFi interactions, and cross-chain bridging complexity. Significant UX improvements in recent years include account abstraction (enabling gasless transactions and social recovery), smart wallets that abstract private key management, one-click cross-chain swaps via aggregators, and progressive disclosure in front-ends that hide complexity from beginners while exposing advanced features for power users. L2 adoption has also dramatically improved UX by reducing transaction costs from tens of dollars to fractions of a cent for most operations. Example: Coinbase's smart wallet uses passkeys stored in Apple/Google cloud rather than seed phrases, allowing users to create a crypto wallet in seconds using Face ID—a UX change that addresses the most common barrier to first-time crypto adoption. Why it matters for Web3: Web3's future as a mainstream platform depends far more on UX quality than on technical capabilities. The protocols and applications that will achieve mass adoption are those that eliminate the technical friction between users and the value blockchain provides.
