A token distribution model in which a cryptocurrency launches with no pre-mine, no pre-sale to investors, no team allocation, and no insider advantage, allowing all participants to acquire tokens on equal terms from the initial deployment. Fair launches emerged as a reaction to the token sale model dominant in the 2017-2018 ICO boom, where founding teams and venture investors typically received substantial allocations at discounted prices before public availability, creating structural advantages and immediate sell pressure from insiders. Bitcoin's original launch is considered the archetypal fair launch: Satoshi Nakamoto released the software publicly, the genesis block was mined with no pre-allocated coins, and anyone with a computer could begin mining immediately.
